- Glass carafe.
- Makes aromatic coffee.
- Flavor lacking.
- Too much plastic materials.
- Does not saturate all the coffee grounds equally.
The main advantage of this coffee maker is the speed with which it brews — five minutes or so.
That makes up for its main disadvantage, which is its small (40 oz) carafe size.
For morning coffee for one or two people, it’s okay, but if you are entertaining, it’s less convenient.
Because of the way the water is heated separately from the warmer, it’s possible to make several pots in quick succession.
With fresh, freshly ground good quality beans, this approaches being the best cup of coffee possible.
The body of the machine is metal, sturdy, and well made. It is designed so the coffee will bloom before it brews, which helps bring out the flavor.
The decanter is very fragile, however, and with a full pot, you must pour slowly, or the coffee will spill.
There is almost no bitterness, and what is there is what is supposed to be. The coffee is so smooth I have severely cut back on my cream and sugar.
The cup of coffee it makes is just that good.
2. Technivorm Moccamaster 59612 KB Coffee Brewer
Simple, easy to clean, and is countertop “eye candy.”
- Coffee brews quickly.
- Difficult to clean the basket because it has so many little crevices and grooves.
It makes a perfect pot of coffee every single time, not to mention it’s fast. It has no bells and whistles.
It has a hot plate that keeps the coffee warm. The basket stays with the machine so you can remove the carafe without removing the basket.
This particular model does not have the auto shut-off when you pull the glass carafe out, but there is a sliding switch on the grounds basket that allows you to shut off the stream of coffee.
By the way, the LOW setting on the hotplate works just fine. This machine brews consistently excellent coffee.

What makes this coffee maker so great is the copper heating element.
It heats very quickly and to the temperature required for that perfect cup of coffee.
One consideration in deciding whether this is right for you is that it is not a compact/portable unit. It is not particularly easy to slide under your cabinets or move around when not in use.
The base upon which the carafe sits comfortably comes unattached from the unit if you push the machine around the counter, and the cord is rather bulky.
The cone that holds the coffee grounds sits in place, rather than being permanently attached.
Easy to clean – the only parts that need cleaning are the filter and the carafe. Both clean up easily with soap and water.
4. Technivorm Moccamaster 39730 CD Grand 60

The plastic carafe lid with the internal destratification tube is an ingenious design feature, forcing the brew to swirl around and mix in the pot while brewing and with each pour from the container, once brewed.
The carafe pours spout lip is well-designed, eliminating messy dribbling while pouring a cup. The individual pieces clean up easily.
As stated by everyone else, the copper heating element and water dispersion method are the real stars of this brewer, resulting in the ideal brewing temperature and uniform ground steeping.
The only thing that bugs us is the attached power cord. It is very substantial in a circumference, very long and very stiff, almost like a primary appliance oven/washer/dryer cord.
It is attached to the left side of the brewer, making the cord stick out and take up too much counter space.

- The replacement parts are available.
- Backed by 5-year manufacturer’s warranty.
- The brewing temperature is between 196 to 205 degrees.
- Thermal carafe cannot be washed in water.
- Low brewing capacity.
You can find this model is slightly smaller than most Technivorm makes, so it is 8 cups instead of 10 cups.
However, the design is a little awkward, the plastic parts, particularly the lid for water dispenser and the plate for under carafe are flimsy and do not seem worth the extra money.
The coffee stays hot at least an hour and a half and, because there is no warmer, it never burns.
It also works well as a one-cup brewer; just put a mug on something a couple of inches high to lift it a bit and set the cone to slow drip. The adjustment on the cone is excellent.
The filter area is somewhat flimsy, and the piece of plastic for under the carafe worthless. It is nice to have a coffee maker that heats the water to the correct temperature, and the carafe works well.

The capacity is second to none, and for the size, it makes the coffee pretty quickly.
You can pour without having to loosen the drip-through cap, and after loosening the solid cap at least a half turn.
We’ve found that the metal pull tab that is supposed to be used to stop the coffee flow can be adjusted to slow the flow instead, giving you a longer steep time and a slightly stronger pot of coffee.
The only thing that you can dislike in this machine is that it can make great coffee as usual, but can not turn off automatically.
7. Technivorm Moccamaster 79115 KBT Coffee Brewer
We love the coffee that this machine makes. The finished coffee tastes great, very smooth, and with a bold flavor.

- No place to put the carafe.
The machine itself is rather simple to use. There is an on/off switch. The grounds are placed in a cone style filter over the thermos carafe.
The water is placed in the reservoir, which has capacity indicator lines. It is sucked down, heated, and pushed up and into the arm that drips into the grounds reservoir.
There is a sliding tab that sets the drip into the carafe to closed, half (for 4 cups or less), and fully open.
No stop valve lets you pour a cup in mid-brew, but the machine is so fast that it’s not a problem to wait a few minutes.
The full pot of coffee is made in under 3 minutes, and it is piping hot. To keep it warm longer, you can temper the carafe with hot water right before you brew.
Some people have wanted an automatic shut-off, but this coffee pot is made to be essential, and so hopefully, last a long time.
The only parts that need cleaning are the filter and the carafe. Both clean up easily with soap and water.

- The carafe is a bit of a nuisance to wash.
It is a great coffee maker, and the unit looks great, but there are some downsides.

The process is so simple, the coffee is hot and brewed perfectly. You can feel noticeably smoother, and without bitterness in the coffee, and because of the carafe, it doesn’t continue to “cook” on a hot plate.
The thermal carafe seals well and keeps the coffee hot, but it is a bit of a nuisance to wash because the opening is narrow, and water collects inside that is hard to get out.
The coffee maker DOES turn itself off after completing the brew cycle. The Cord is so thick, impossible to hide behind the coffee maker — also, many plastic pieces.
